Balaji Former Coinbase CTO Bold $1 Million Bitcoin Prediction Amid US Banking Crisis
Balaji Srinivasan's Million-Dollar Bet on Bitcoin Amid Hyperinflation and US Banking Turmoil
Former Coinbase CTO Balaji Srinivasan predicts that Bitcoin's price will surge to $1 million within 90 days due to hyperinflation in the United States. Srinivasan made a bet with James Medlock, a pseudonymous Twitter user, and another individual on March 17, based on their differing views about the US economy's future.
Srinivasan's prediction stems from his belief that an impending crisis will lead to the deflation of the US dollar and a hyperinflation scenario, which would propel Bitcoin's price to $1 million. In contrast, Medlock is bearish about hyperinflation in the country.
Bitcoin has outperformed Wall Street bank stocks recently, with its market capitalization growing by over $194 billion year-to-date, resulting in a 66% increase in 2023. Srinivasan envisions a global economy on the brink of rapid change, which he calls "hyperbitcoinization," where the US dollar will enter a period of rapid hyperinflation, and the global economy will "redenominate on Bitcoin as digital gold."
Prominent voices in the crypto community, including Jimmy Song and Adam Cochran, have weighed in on the prediction's realism. Cochran believes Bitcoin would need a catalyst more extreme than the 2020 coronavirus pandemic to surpass the 547% rally seen from 2020 to 2022.
Srinivasan, with an estimated net worth of around $150 million, is not the only one to predict a $1 million Bitcoin price. Cathie Wood’s ARK Invest estimated that Bitcoin could exceed $1 million by 2030 as the network "is likely to scale as nation-states adopt [Bitcoin] as legal tender."
